Thank You!

Thank you for choosing to donate to this cause.

Even a very small donation (ex. $5) will go a long way on projects we are working on here.

Basic things like food supplies for workshops, bus fares for the Doņas of COHAPAZ to go to the colonias, and electricity for the clinic can be greatly aided by even small donations.

Bus fare one way is the equivalent of $0.20CAN and so a donation of only $5 would mean 25 bus trips for the Doņas who need to travel from colonia to colonia for meetings, check-ups, or projects.

A small donation could also go a long way to help with preparing and reproducing educational material for workshops. It would also help pay for the participants transportation - an expected courtesy in Honduras. Lunch must also be provided at workshops, and this provides an opportunity to demonstrate what constitues a nutritional meal. Your donation would help pay for healthy lunches, usually prepared by a young woman who lives in one of the colonias.

While basic food is relatively expensive for people here, compared to Canada or the USA it is relatively inexpensive. A head of cabbage costs between 30 and 60 cents. A lunch plate for $1-3. Again, only a small donation would help us provide, for example, lunches provided at workshops. To give an example of an average wage, the local labourers on the COHAPAZ pila project received 100-200 Lempiras a day (considered a decent rate). This is equivalent to around 6-12 dollars. And taking the bus to and from work would set them back 6 lempiras or 12 if they had to transfer--a considerable amount of their daily wage.

Providing medicine for people that comes to the clinic also has its costs. While much of the medicine is donated from friends of Doctor Almendares in the USA, the doctor ends up paying hundreds of dollars in import taxes to be allowed to retrieve the medicine from Honduras customs.
